El Monte Union Welcomes Dr. Mieke Kramer-Tavares as Special Education Programs Administrator

Dear El Monte Union Community,

El Monte Union High School District welcomes Dr. Mieke Kramer-Tavares as its new Special Education Programs Administrator, where she will support the District’s Adult Transition Program and special education programs.

Kramer-Tavares brings more than a decade of experience in special education, including recently leading the Adult Transition Program and Districtwide work-experience initiatives at West Covina Unified School District. In that role, she also oversaw WorkAbility I and We Can Work programs, coordinated alternative placements for secondary students with individualized education programs, and provided guidance and support to secondary school teams.

Previously, Kramer-Tavares served as Coordinator and Acting Director of Special Education for Acton-Agua Dulce Unified School District, overseeing special education programs, staffing, budgets, compliance, professional development, and community partnerships. She also has experience supporting special education programs in Glendale and Burbank unified school districts.

Kramer-Tavares holds a Doctor of Education in Transformational Organizational Leadership, master’s degrees in Educational Administration and Special Education, a California Administrative Services Credential, and an Education Specialist Instruction Credential. She also serves as an adjunct professor at the University of Massachusetts Global, where she teaches graduate-level special education courses.

In her new role, Kramer-Tavares said she looks forward to working with students, families, staff, and community partners to strengthen transition services and pathways that help students prepare for employment, community participation, and independent adult life.
