El Monte Union High School District

Community Committed to College and Career

Measure D and HS Bond Citizens Oversight Committee

In November 2008, Measure D was approved by the voters of El Monte to support a new bond in the amount $148 million. The goal of the bond was to ensure safe high school campuses, better prepare local students for college as well as high-demand jobs, and finally, to rehabilitate, acquire, construct, and modernize our classrooms, buildings, and sites.

In November 2018, Measure HS was also approved by the voters of El Monte to support a new bond in the amount of $190 million.  The goal of the bond is to upgrade all neighborhood high schools, attract quality teachers by improving school security, emergency communications/fire safety, classrooms, science, engineering/computer labs; repairing leaky roofs; providing safe drinking water; acquiring, constructing, repairing sites, facilities, and equipment.

Since its inception, community members have been seeing the physical improvements being made to the schools.  Parents and students have seen the improvements in the form of enhanced teaching methods, upgraded technology, and increased levels of success for graduation and the preparedness for college, universities or trade schools.

An active citizens' oversight committee is part of the accountability process of all monies received and implemented to ensure even check and balances.  The committee shall consist of at least seven (7) members plus two (2) alternates appointed by the Board of Trustees of the groups listed below and meet on a quarterly basis.
