El Monte Union Welcomes New Leadership at District and School Level

El Monte Union High School District is welcoming new leaders to the District Office, South El Monte High School, and Arroyo High School continuing its commitment to supporting student success, strengthening school communities, and investing in exceptional leadership.
Joseph Zepeda, El Monte Union Director of Human Resources.
The District has appointed Joseph Zepeda as Director of Human Resources, bringing more than two decades of educational leadership experience to the role. Most recently, Zepeda served as Director of Human Resources for Hacienda La Puente Unified School District. His extensive background includes serving as a principal, assistant principal, and instructional leader, with expertise in personnel management, labor relations, employee development, and organizational leadership. Zepeda’s experience will help advance the District’s efforts to continue building a strong, collaborative, and supportive environment for employees.
Olga Lopez, South El Monte High School Principal.
Olga Lopez has been appointed principal of South El Monte High School following more than 35 years of service to El Monte Union. Lopez began her career with the District in 1990 and has served in a variety of instructional and administrative roles, including assistant principal of activities, student services, and instruction at South El Monte High School. Most recently, she served as assistant principal for Mountain View High School. Throughout her career, Lopez has demonstrated a deep commitment to student achievement, positive school culture, and building meaningful connections with students, staff, and families.
Brendan Buono, Arroyo High School Assistant Principal.
Brendan Buono has been appointed assistant principal at Arroyo High School. Buono has served El Monte Union in instructional and student support roles, beginning his career in adult education before joining Rosemead High School as a social science teacher. Most recently, he served as Student Affairs Director at Arroyo High School, where he supported student engagement, campus culture, and school operations.
"We are excited to welcome these outstanding leaders into their new roles," Superintendent Dr. Edward Zuniga said. "Ms. Lopez, Mr. Buono, and Mr. Zepeda each bring a wealth of experience, a commitment to excellence, and a student-centered approach that will strengthen our schools and support the continued success of our students, staff, and families."
