Parent Engagement and Support FRLHS
One of our school goals at Fernando R. Ledesma High School(FRLHS) is to enhance and strengthen our partnerships throughout our community. As the principal (Freddy Arteaga), I believe it is no secret that our most vital and enjoyable partnership is with our parents. This year, Fernando R. Ledesma High School along with the support of the El Monte Union High School District team, aims to increase our parent involvement to new levels. We are set to launch our new parent engagement plan to provide services that are critical to the needs and success of our students and community. FRLHS plans on providing consistent services that will increase parent engagement and help increase student achievement in credit completion, attendance, and standardized testing. Our plan will support family unity and engagement, help teachers support our student’s unique challenges, assist with social and emotional needs and champion mental wellness. This will also enhance other essential school plans that drive our school vision. These plans include Local Control Accountability Plan (LCAP) goals, School Plan for Student Achievement (SPASA) goals and WASC (Western Association of Schools and Colleges (WASC) goals. The main components to our plan include: maximizing the infrastructure we currently have in place, supporting district student/family resolutions, positive media communication, and promoting important engagement/activity dates including parent workshops and community and district family events.
Connecting the learning experience from classroom to home is crucial to achieving the school’s mission, vision, and student learner outcomes. Parent involvement motivates students to learn, thus increasing productivity resulting in higher/improved grades. FRLHS will focus on increased parent involvement.
FRLHS teachers work collaboratively with administration, parents, community and most importantly students. Parent engagement also leads to increased positive parent and teacher relationships. Increased communication between parents and teachers also leads to improved student academic outcomes. We believe parents develop a deeper understanding and appreciation of the challenges teachers face daily. The interaction also helps teachers understand the family dynamic and any challenges they may be facing at home. Understanding the students emotional and intellectual needs better increases the chances of students successfully achieving the learner outcomes. FRLHS also has worked diligently with the district office support team to help students with social and emotional learning (SEL) needs. For the past two years, teachers have taught weekly SEL lessons to support the emotional needs of the students. Our Wellness Center will play a vital role in supporting students' mental wellness and increase parent engagement at FRLHS. Individual and group counseling sessions will be at the forefront of this focus.
Our plan to maximize parent engagement will be done through promoting our services and support team. FRLHS will use media communications (Instagram, Twitter, and Facebook) as well as school and district web-sites to increase awareness of parent workshops and important dates and events at school, in the district and throughout the community. Parents play an instrumental role in the success of their children and by strengthening our partnership with families, students will reap the benefits. As the principal of FRLHS it is my goal to promote the resources available to the parents and students, ensure that these resources are being utilized effectively in order to strengthen the engagement and connectedness of families to FRLHS. I look forward to meeting with you and building a partnership that will increase student achievement.
