  • Fernando R. Ledesma High School is a continuation high school committed to a mission of providing students with a personalized alternative education program in a safe, caring environment that focuses on state and district instructional standards, enabling students to develop into successful, productive citizens.

    Alternative approaches to learning and flexible academic programs are utilized to better serve the special needs of these students. The Guaranteed Guidance Program ensures that all students have an equal opportunity in all classes in all subject areas, placement is monitored by an ongoing assessment of student needs and the adjustment of programs as needs change. The school's mission supports the mission and goals of the El Monte Union High School District.

  • Fernando R. Ledesma High Named a 2018 Model Continuation School

    Fernando R. Ledesma High School is one of 32 schools in the state to be recognized as a 2018 Model Continuation High School, a designation awarded by the California Department of Education to schools that provide exemplary programs to at-risk youth through the use of innovative instructional strategies, flexible scheduling, and guidance and counseling services. “Every day, our teachers and staff unite in their shared goal of addressing our students’ academic, social and emotional well-being, while cultivating a safe and caring learning environment in which they can overcome obstacles and succeed,” Principal Freddy Arteaga said. “Being among the few schools selected across the state as Model Continuation High Schools is a testament to the supportive culture we have worked hard to foster.” click story title for more...

    Arroyo High School’s Farm Lab, developed through a partnership between Eco Urban Gardens and the City of Hope, provides a template for sustainability that can help transform urban food deserts into rich sources of nutrition and biodiversity, while opening new doors for students eager to pursue careers in biology, environmental science and urban agriculture.

  • El Monte Community Bands Together to Support EMUHSD Class of 2020 with Graduation Banners

    The El Monte Promise Foundation (EMPF) and El Monte Union High School are honoring 1,800 Class of 2020 graduates with 400 individualized banners that are on display around major corridors and streets across the three cities in which the District’s six high schools call home.

  • El Monte Union to Continue Distance Learning for Remainder of Fall Semester

    El Monte Union High School District will continue its distance learning program for the remainder of the fall 2020 semester, but is exploring the possibility of developing learning groups (pods) for students most in need, including those in special education programs and English learners. Students in these learning pods will continue distance learning while they are on campus.

For her exceptional ability to empower students, set standards for quality education and achieve the highest level of professionalism in art education, Cooley has been recognized as the California Art Education Association (CAEA) 2020 Outstanding Visual Art Educator of the Year.
