    Parent Recourse

Grade 9 course preregistration for current Grade 8 students begins in February of each academic year.  Guidance counselors from the high schools and teachers from the middle schools work collaboratively to place students in math courses in accordance to the criteria outlined by this placement policy.  Tentative programs/schedules of courses are provided to incoming Grade 9 students by June/July.

If for any reason a parent/guardian believes their child is not placed accurately in a preregistered math course, an appointment must be made at the high school in order to discuss possible program changes.

    Placement Checkpoint

To ensure Grade 9 students are properly placed in their math class, the following measures will be conducted within the first month of instruction:

    • Evaluation of student progress in their math course based on student work. (e.g. Homework/Classwork/Assessments)
    • Ensure students have met all prerequisite criteria for the math course as outlined by this placement policy.

Based on these measures, students may be recommended to be placed in a different level math course.
