Ms. Maria Morgan

Maria Morgan was elected as a school board member in November 2015 and currently serves as the President of the El Monte Union High School District Board of Trustees.

Mrs. Maria Morgan has had the honor of working for El Monte City School District for the past 13 years and is currently the District Community Liaison.  In this role, Mrs. Morgan is responsible for leading the district’s goals in Parent Engagement and supporting a team of liaisons that work toward building Parent Leadership capacity.  Born and raised in El Monte, Mrs. Morgan’s family is 3 generations of EMUHSD graduates. Earning an Associate’s Degree in Child Development from Rio Hondo Community College, Bachelor’s Degree in Human Development from Azusa Pacific University, and a Master’s Degree in Leadership and Organizational Studies from Azusa Pacific University, she is the first in her family to graduate from college.  She has four children that graduated from Arroyo High School.  Mrs. Morgan believes that every child deserves a quality public education, provided by caring and supportive teachers that will help them reach their highest potential.  Her goal is to work collaboratively with all stakeholders to ensure that all of the students of El Monte Union High School District reach their highest potential.

Mr. Ricardo Padilla

Ricardo Padilla was elected as a school board member in November 2013 and currently serves as the Vice President of the El Monte Union High School District Board of Trustees.

BIO

Ricardo Padilla is a longtime resident of the city of El Monte. He attended Rio Vista Elementary and Charles E. Gidley Middle School in the El Monte City School District. Ricardo went on to graduate from Rosemead High School and then attended college to earn several degrees and certifications in education.  Ricardo has worked in education for the past 23 years in the El Monte City School District. He has experience as an Instructional Assistant, ESL Teacher, AVID Coordinator and his current assignment for the past 16 years as an Outreach Consultant with the Child Welfare and Attendance Department. Ricardo has also been the proud recipient of the prestigious Golden Oak Service Award from the PTA and the Association of California School Administrators' (ACSA) Golden Apple Award.  In his spare time, Ricardo serves as President of the El Monte-South El Monte Emergency Resources Association, a non-profit organization that focuses on helping struggling individuals and families.  Contact Mr. Padilla at:  ricardo.padilla@emuhsd.org

Mr. David Diaz

David Diaz was newly elected in November 2017 and currently serves as the Clerk of the El Monte Union High School District Board of Trustees.

BIO

David was born in Ensenada, Mexico to two hard working parents, Raquel and Jose Diaz. He was raised in the communities of El Monte and South El Monte where he made some of his best friends, memories, and met his wife. David is a Wilkerson Wildcat, Shively Saint, South El Monte High School Eagle and Rio Hondo Roadrunner alumnus.

David Diaz serves as a director at a local nonprofit public health organization, focusing on youth development, education and creating change in underrepresented communities.  He's a dedicated public servant and advocate with project management, coalition building experience who has successfully worked with youth, schools, businesses, nonprofit organizations and cities to advance education, equity and public health.  Over the course of the last few years, he’s worked on the development of an Advanced Energy Community plan, the San Gabriel Valley Regional Bicycle Master Plan, the Puente Hills Landfill Park Master Plan, an Urban Greening Toolkit, and multiple healthy community related policies/initiatives aimed at creating healthier environments in the El Monte/South El Monte. 

David is also a consultant with a local nonprofit, Bike San Gabriel Valley, Investing in Place Board Member, South El Monte Planning Commissioner, and former South El Monte Community Services Commissioner. As an invested resident of the City of South El Monte, he has championed health, literacy, and creating opportunities for the Greater El Monte/South El Monte area. He holds a Masters of Public Health degree from Claremont Graduate University and is happily married to Anais Medina-Diaz.

Mr. Carlos G. Salcedo

Carlos Salcedo was elected as a school board member in November 2015 and currently serves as a Member of the El Monte Union High School District Board of Trustees.

BIO

Mr. Carlos G. Salcedo and his wife Martha, are parents of two children who attend school in the El Monte City School District.  Mr. Salcedo has made education his life’s work.  His focus is on increasing student achievement in the El Monte Union High School District.

Mr. Salcedo has been involved in public education for over 25 years.  He began helping El Monte’s youth as a paraprofessional for the Mountain View School District and then became a teacher after he received his college degree.  After being a classroom teacher for 15 years, Mr. Salcedo moved on to become an assistant principal at Durfee School in the El Monte City School District.  After 4.5 years at Durfee School he accepted a position as principal at Cleminson School.

In each of these positions, he focused on academic excellence and implemented educational programs tailored to the needs of the students and community.

A hallmark of Mr. Salcedo’s career has been his community involvement.  Mr. Salcedo is actively involved as a board member for the El Monte National Little League, El Monte Promise Foundation and the Bobby Salcedo Memorial Foundation.

Throughout his career, Mr. Salcedo has advocated for all students and their academic achievement, ensuring that all students continue to progress.  To this end, he has worked to establish effective partnerships with elected officials, business and community-based organizations in order to improve educational programs at all school sites.
