Voter Registration for 16+ Year Old Students and Family Members
-
The El Monte Union High School District encourages ALL our 16+-year-old students and family members to complete the Voter registration and cast their ballot on Election Day when you turn 18!
How to complete your voter registration:
Online pre-registration is available for eligible 16 and 17-year-old students by visiting registertovote.ca.gov. California youth who pre-register to vote will have their registration become active on their 18th birthday.
Pre-registration does not change the voting age, which is 18. Instead, it allows eligible Californians ages 16 and/or 17-year old students to complete the online voter registration form providing sufficient time and opportunity to get ready to vote.
The new online pre-registration applies to California youth who are 16 or 17 and meet the following criteria:
- A United States citizen and a resident of California,
- Not currently serving a state or federal prison term for the conviction of a felony (for more information on the rights of people who have been incarcerated, please see the Secretary of State's (Voting Rights: Persons with a Criminal History), and
- Not currently found mentally incompetent to vote by a court (for more information, please see Voting Rights: Persons Subject to Conservatorship)
We invite you to view the information below and share it widely with family, friends, neighbors, and other students. Please VISIT registertovote.ca.gov to register or pre-register to vote when you turn 16.
Note: If you are 18 or older, and have not registered to vote, you can follow the same process by visiting registertovote.ca.gov.
