    English 1P

    Course Description: English 1P is designed to continue the development of student skills in reading, writing, listening, and speaking. The course is college preparatory, with the curriculum based on the English Language Arts Common Core State Standards (CCSS). The course incorporates the various genre found in literature: short story, novel, drama, poetry, and nonfiction. The goals of this course are to ensure that all students develop an approach to reading and analyzing the arguments of both fiction and nonfiction texts, while establishing a foundation for developing their own arguments and articulating these through individual essay writing.

    Curriculum Overview: For each of the six units throughout this school year, students will be given a supplemental course reader that will include the goals for each unit and the Unit Essay prompt along with many of the readings and assignments for each unit. These course readers are each student’s responsibility and will be frequently used in class. The assignments within each unit will develop the focus of the unit and lead to the final Unit Essay. The Unit Essay is a final performance or demonstration of the skills and concepts involved in each unit.

     

    English 2P

    ERWC

    Course Description: ERWC is designed specifically to help prepare students for the rigorous demands of reading and writing in the first year of college and beyond.  This course has a heavy emphasis on the rhetorical thinking, writing, speaking, and reading of expository texts and literature that are predominant in college courses and the world of careers.
