Why Attending School Matters
When it comes to learning, every single school day counts. Research shows that attendance plays a vital role in academic success. Simply put, students must attend school to benefit from it.
Just two missed days of school every month, for any reason, can cause a child to suffer academically and decrease the chances that he or she will graduate. Absences add up—and subtract from learning.
Arroyo High School believes that regular attendance plays a key role in student achievement and recognizes its responsibility under the law to ensure that students attend school regularly. Arroyo High School will abide by all state attendance laws and may use appropriate legal means to correct the problems of excessive absences or truancies.
All absences from class must be cleared through the Attendance Office. To clear an absence, the student must submit a note within three (3) school days of returning to school by the parent/guardian or doctor’s office. Parent notes must be signed by the parent/guardian and include the student’s name, date of absence, and reason for the absence. The parent may also call or Email the attendance clerks. An excessive number of absences need to be verified by a doctor.
Every student must check out with the Attendance Office before leaving school for any reason. Failing to check out properly will result in a truancy.
