  • SEMHS Academic Decathlon Team Scores BIG!

    Congratulations to our Academic Decathlon team under the direction of Coach Oscar Castillo. Our Eagles won the "Rookie of the Year" award for the highest points earned by any new team in Los Angeles County.     All of the El Monte Union High School District websites have been recently updated to allow our students, parents, staff and community members greater access to our content. Along with the refreshed look and feel comes improvements for mobile device viewing, up to date calendar of events, on-the-fly language translations, & more multimedia opportunities (e.g. images, videos and social media integration. We invite you to take a look at our programs, classes, and activities.   • Effective First-Time Educators

    South El Monte High School teacher and AVID Coordinator Cesar Castellanos was honored with the 2017 Bobby Salcedo Esperanza Award at the El Monte Promise Foundation’s 14th annual Tamalada fundraiser on.December 14. Mr. Castellanos, a Rosemead High School graduate, has been an English teacher at El Monte Union since 2011 and was recognized for his tireless efforts to ensure students believe in themselves and succeed.

    The Western Association of Schools & Colleges (WASC) awarded a SIX YEAR ACCREDITATION TERM to South El Monte High School. Our dedicated staff continues to monitor our six-year plan and to meet our annual goals. GOALS: Provide effective first time instruction, promote a college-going culture, enhance collaboration to support English Learners and students with special needs, increase authentic opportunities for parent involvement, and foster reciprocal communication between the school and the district.

  • EMUHSD Administering Healthy Kids Survey

    The El Monte Union High School District is currently administering the California Healthy Kids Survey to students, parents, and staff. The CalSCHLS system was created by the California Department of Education (CDE) in 1997 to efficiently and cost-effectively provide school districts and their partner communities with quality local data which can be used to improve student academic performance and social-emotional, behavioral, and physical health of all youth.   • Two El Monte Union Seniors Surprised with $40,000 Edison STEM Scholarships

    Two El Monte Union High School District seniors are among an elite group of 30 high school students from across the Southland to receive $40,000 STEM college scholarships from Edison International during surprise announcements. South El Monte High School senior Sandra Amezcua Rocha, who was surprised during her Spanish Literature class on March 26, and El Monte High School senior Connie Lee, who received the exciting news via Skype on March 19, were selected out of more than 2,000 applicants to the Edison Scholars program. “I was very surprised and am very thankful for this investment in my future,” said Amezcua Rocha, who was presented with the check by Edison International President and CEO Pedro Pizarro to the wild applause of her family and friends.   • El Monte Union Seniors Celebrate Commitment to College During Ceremonies

    Hundreds of graduating seniors from El Monte Union’s comprehensive high schools celebrated their university-bound commitments in front of cheering crowds of underclassmen, teachers and administrators during District-wide College Signing Day ceremonies taking place April 26-May 3. Mountain View, South El Monte, El Monte, Rosemead and Arroyo high schools hosted individual events to celebrate seniors achieving their academic pursuits and to showcase the college-going culture each campus has cultivated to inspire and prepare students to follow their educational and professional goals. “It feels really special to be recognized, and it’s nice to see everyone together celebrating and happy,” said Mountain View High senior Matthew Acuna, who will attend California State University, Los Angeles in the fall. “It’s so good to know that all my hard work has paid off.” ...click the story title for more info and images
