Meet the Administration
Principal - Deborah Kerr, Ed.D
Dr. Kerr has been the proud leader of El Monte-Rosemead Adult School since 2014. Throughout her career Dr. Kerr has been an advocate for adult learners and adult education programs. As a teacher she developed a national model program for computer-assisted instruction that was awarded “Outstanding Adult Literacy Program” by the U.S. Secretary of Education. She taught in six of ten adult education program areas working with diverse student populations. Dr. Kerr served as a teacher trainer for the CDE Leadership Project addressing adult literacy. She served as an educational leader of academic programs at Pomona Adult School and Riverside Adult School, and was the site administrator for adult CTE programs at Baldy View ROP. Dr. Kerr has been active in both ASCA and CCAE and is a frequent Visiting Committee Chair for WASC accreditation. She is a tireless advocate of adult education programs statewide. Dr. Kerr earned her BA degree from Muhlenberg College, and pursued a M.Ed. in Educational Management and an Ed.D. in Organizational Leadership at the University of La Verne
Assistant Principal - Trina Cardona
Miss Cardona received her Bachelor of Arts Degree from Loyola Marymount University and Master of Arts Degree in Clinical Psychology from Pepperdine University. She began working for the El Monte Union High School District in 1994 as a teacher at South El Monte High School. She then was a counselor at Arroyo High School followed by Counselor/ Administrator at El Monte -Rosemead Adult School. She's currenly the Assistant Principal at El Monte-Rosemead Adult School. With 23 years of experience working in education, Miss Cardona says the best part of her job is working with the students. "It is wonderful to assist students to see their potential and guide them to pursue educational excellence as they reach for their individual goals."
Program Administrator - Carrie Frogue, High School Diploma, Adult Basic Education
Ms. Frogue attended Whittier College where she received her Bachelor of Arts degree in Psychology. She is proud to have been in adult education for over twenty years. She got her start teaching English as a Second Language and High School Diploma classes. She has also held the positions of Curriculum Specialist and Program Specialist. Ms. Frogue has been involved in the California Council for Adult Education and AEBG leadership opportunities, regularly advocating with local and state legislators for greater opportunities for adult students. She is currently a Program Administrator at El Monte-Rosemead Adult School. The best part of her job is encouraging and supporting students as they reach their educational goals.
Program Administrator - Paul Diaz, Data and Accountability, Student Services
Mr. Diaz attended California State University, Fullerton where he received his Bachelor of Arts Degree in Communications. He then received his teaching credential from California State University, San Bernardino. Mr. Diaz also attended Point Loma Nazarene University where he earned a Master of Arts Degree in Education and Counseling. He holds both an Administrative Services Credential and a Pupil Personnel Services Credential. Mr. Diaz is proud to say he has been with adult education for 24 years. He began working for the El Monte Union High School District in 1994 as a teacher for the El Monte-Rosemead Adult School. He has continued his career at the adult school and is presently a Program Administrator. Mr. Diaz says the best part of his job is seeing adult students taking advantage of opportunities to learn something new and encouraging them to never give up on their goals.
Lisa Ton Program Administrator - Lisa Ton, Career Technical Education
Ms. Ton attended Cal Poly Pomona and received her Bachelor of Arts in Liberal Studies and Master of Arts Degree in Education from Point Loma Nazarene University. She holds both an Administrative Services Credential and a Pupil Personnel Services Credential. Ms. Ton began working for the El Monte Union High School District in 2002 as a SB 65 Drop Out Prevention Specialist at Mountain View High School. She then was a Guidance Counselor at El Monte High School and is currently employed as a Program Administrator at El Monte-Rosemead Adult School. With 20+ years of experience working in education, the best part of her job is witnessing student’s growth and success through learning.
Program Administrator - Erix Oliva, English as a Second Language
Mr. Oliva attended California State University, Los Angeles where he received his Bachelor of Science degree in Mathematics and his teaching credential. He also attended Azusa Pacific University where he earned his Master of Arts degree in Education and Counseling. Mr. Oliva also holds a clear Administrative Services Credential. He began his teaching career at El Monte High School in 1988 as a Mathematics teacher and then became an academic counselor. Presently, he is working as a Program Administrator at El Monte Rosemead Adult School. After working for 30 years with adolescent and adult students, Mr. Oliva says that the best part of working in education is seeing the light that shines from students’ eyes when you let them know that there are many doors of success and knowledge still waiting to be open. Mr. Oliva is a tireless advocate of education for everyone.
