  • Adult Education Week

    Adult Ed Week is coming up! It is April 16, 2018 - April 20, 2018. The theme for this year is "Music is the Universal Language". The Essay Contest for the students is going very well. We had over 300 essays submitted by our students. Thank you to everyone that participated. The winners will be announced during Adult Ed Week with a special presentation on Wednesday, April 18.

  • Two El Monte Union Seniors Surprised with $40,000 Edison STEM Scholarships

    Two El Monte Union High School District seniors are among an elite group of 30 high school students from across the Southland to receive $40,000 STEM college scholarships from Edison International during surprise announcements. South El Monte High School senior Sandra Amezcua Rocha, who was surprised during her Spanish Literature class on March 26, and El Monte High School senior Connie Lee, who received the exciting news via Skype on March 19, were selected out of more than 2,000 applicants to the Edison Scholars program. “I was very surprised and am very thankful for this investment in my future,” said Amezcua Rocha, who was presented with the check by Edison International President and CEO Pedro Pizarro to the wild applause of her family and friends.   • El Monte Union Seniors Celebrate Commitment to College During Ceremonies

    Hundreds of graduating seniors from El Monte Union’s comprehensive high schools celebrated their university-bound commitments in front of cheering crowds of underclassmen, teachers and administrators during District-wide College Signing Day ceremonies taking place April 26-May 3. Mountain View, South El Monte, El Monte, Rosemead and Arroyo high schools hosted individual events to celebrate seniors achieving their academic pursuits and to showcase the college-going culture each campus has cultivated to inspire and prepare students to follow their educational and professional goals. “It feels really special to be recognized, and it’s nice to see everyone together celebrating and happy,” said Mountain View High senior Matthew Acuna, who will attend California State University, Los Angeles in the fall. “It’s so good to know that all my hard work has paid off.” ...click the story title for more info and images

  • El Monte Union Superintendent Named Cal Poly Pomona Distinguished Alumnus

    El Monte Union High School District Superintendent Dr. Edward Zuniga will be honored by the Cal Poly Alumni Association as its 2018 Distinguished Alumnus, recognizing the class of 1996 grad for his vision, leadership and willingness to give back to the El Monte community. Zuniga will receive the 2018 College of Education and Integrative Studies Distinguished Alumni Award during the Cal Poly Distinguished Alumni Awards Ceremony at the Sheraton Hotels and Resorts Fairplex Conference Center in Pomona on Friday, April 27. “Being named a distinguished alumnus is a tremendous honor, and I am humbled and thankful for this recognition,” Zuniga said. “The guidance and support I received at Cal Poly has resonated throughout my career as an educator and enabled me to reach professional heights.   • El Monte Union Teacher Prep Academy Wins 2017 Golden Bell Award

    Since its inception in 2000, El Monte Union’s Teacher Preparation Academy (TPA) – a novel teaching program at Mountain View High School (MVHS) – has provided aspiring educators a pathway toward pursuing a teaching profession while boosting college-going rates, academic achievement and school attendance. Every week, 100 MVHS juniors and seniors in the TPA program make the trek to nearby Mountain View School District elementary and middle schools to tutor transitional kindergarten through eighth-grade students in arithmetic, phonics and sentence composition, providing one-on-one instruction while honing their teaching skills.
