El Monte Union Partners with City of El Monte to INSPIRE Students
El Monte Union recently partnered with the City of El Monte to host two leadership conferences for hundreds of boys and girls who were provided with mentorship, inspiration and encouragement to ensure their success in high school and beyond.
The INSPIRE Young Men’s Leadership Day, held Feb. 15, included 150 students in grades nine through 12 from El Monte Union’s six high schools. The INSPIRE Young Women’s Leadership Day, held March 2, welcomed 150 girls in grades eight through 12 from EMUHSD and Mountain View and El Monte City school districts.
The male students, who are in the academic-middle, took part in three break-out sessions that focused on the themes “Know Your Role” (professional etiquette), “Virtual Realty vs. Your Reality” (prioritizing and social media pitfalls) and “Who Am I?” (learning and defining who they want to be).
To conclude the event, students received business ties, marking a new beginning toward successful futures.
The girls also participated in three breakout sessions focused on building confidence, empowerment and personal success. The conference also highlighted stress relief strategies, discussions on overall wellness and featured yoga and meditation techniques.
Both conferences included a rotating mentors luncheon with community leaders.
“We are proud to partner with the city and community leaders to ensure our students have role models to talk to, look up to and ask advice of, especially at this critical age when they are discovering who they are, who they want to be and what they want their futures to look like,” Superintendent Dr. Edward Zuniga said.
