ATTENDANCE COUNTS: El Monte Union Emphasizes Crucial Role of Student Attendance and Punctuality
Dear El Monte Union Community,
At El Monte Union, we are committed to ensuring our students understand the importance of daily attendance and that they are equipped with the right tools and resources they need to accomplish their goals every day.
Daily attendance supports academic achievement, helps establish responsible habits, builds a positive school culture and reduces the achievement gap. Research shows that missing 10% of school, about 18 days in our District, negatively affects a student’s academic performance. That’s just two days a month, which is known as chronic absenteeism.
To maintain good school attendance and arrive at school on time each day, the District is encouraging parents and guardians to collaborate with our schools and support students by establishing a consistent routine, monitoring their progress and having open communication about daily attendance.
Please remember that the normal start to the school day is 8:30 a.m. For more information on our bell schedules, including late start dates, please visit your school’s website.
By working together, El Monte Union students will continue to thrive and succeed personally and academically throughout the school year!
Thank you.
