A Message from the Superintendent on COVID Testing After Spring Break
A Message from the Superintendent on COVID Testing After Spring Break
Dear El Monte Union High School District Community,
Spring break is a time for all of us to take a moment, relax, recharge and reflect on our challenging, yet successful school year with the home stretch of 2021-22 well in view. As we prepare for spring break, I would like to provide some important information on COVID-19 guidelines and the return to school on Monday, April 25, 2022.
With COVID-19 transmission rates holding at a low level within our school communities, we are pleased to see that our students and staff continue to be self-aware of safety precautions. As a district, we have worked to maintain protocols and we appreciate your ongoing support.
We know that students and families will be traveling or gathering over the break. With this in mind, and with the awareness that the Omicron subvariant BA.2 is transmissible within our communities, it is important to ensure everyone returns to campus with the health and safety of all in mind.
With appropriate screening measures, including mandatory testing for all students upon returning to campus after spring break, we will continue with low COVID-positive rates on campus. To help us accomplish this, all students are required to take a COVID-19 rapid antigen test provided by the District. Please follow the steps below in preparation for your return to campus after spring break.
- Stay home with any sign of illness, even if mild, and test to rule out COVID-19.
- All students and staff will be provided with a rapid antigen test kit on Wednesday, April 13.
- Please hold this test kit for use on Sunday, April 24.
- Students must report their test results on Sunday, April 24, using a school-issued link. The link for each school will be affixed to the test kits that will be distributed at all schools on Wednesday, April 13. Stay home if you test positive.
- After reporting the test results, students will receive an email confirmation. This confirmation will need to be shown to school staff upon arrival at school on Monday, April 25.
- Mandatory on-site testing will be required for students who do not complete a rapid antigen test on Sunday, April 24 and submit their results by using the link provided on their test.
The District strongly recommends that all students and staff also wear masks indoors for the first week after spring break. In addition, the District will continue to require weekly testing for students and staff who are not vaccinated.
I look forward to seeing all students and staff upon our return from spring break on April 25. Thank you for your cooperation in keeping our schools healthy and safe so that we can all finish the school year strong!
I wish you an enjoyable and safe spring break with your loved ones.
Sincerely,
Edward A. Zuniga, Ed.D.
