El Monte Union High School District Mask Mandate - Effective October 15, 2021

The El Monte Union High School District recognizes that wearing face masks reduces the spread of SARS-CoV-2, the virus that causes COVID-19. The health and safety of our students and staff continue to be our priority.

EMUHSD will require all who are attending or participating in district-sponsored athletic events to wear a face-covering effective Friday, October 15, 2021. In all indoor settings and at outdoor athletic competition events, wearing a mask is required, regardless of vaccination status except when people are actively eating or drinking. Spectators should bring their own masks.  Masks will be made available for those who arrive without them.

Student-athletes participating in outdoor events are required to wear a face-covering when not competing or participating in strenuous activities. Coaches and staff members are also required to wear a face-covering at all times.

Participants must wear a face mask, even while engaging in physical activity, in any indoor setting. Student-athletes are encouraged to bring more than one mask to games in case their mask gets wet or soiled during play. Any face mask that becomes saturated with sweat should be changed immediately. There are some exceptions to this per Los Angeles County Department of Public Health Protocol for Organized Youth Sports: Appendix S.

EMUHSD will make available masks at no charge to spectators and participants during athletic events.

Schools are required to make announcements about the mask mandate before and during all athletic events. All guests will be required to go through a screening process to ensure they have a face covering.

Spectators and participants who do not adhere to the District mandate for face coverings will not be permitted to attend.

EMUHSD mask mandate will be effective from October 15, 2021, to December 31, 2021.

We sincerely appreciate your understanding and cooperation.
