Superintendent's Update - November 2024; El Monte Union welcomes students, staff, and families back from a restful fall break. Superintendent's Update - December/January 2024; As our students embark upon the new year, El Monte Union is reminded of the sense of renewal and possibility that accompanies it. January marks the midyear point and the onset of the spring semester, making it an opportune time for reflection and renewed commitment to our academic pursuits. Daily attendance continues to remain paramount to the academic success of our students as we enter the final half of the school year. Consistent attendance fosters a habit of discipline and responsibility that is integral to achieving one's educational goals. Superintendent's Update - October 2023; Amidst the changing season, El Monte Union would like to convey its deepest appreciation to our remarkable students, staff and families for an exceptional start to the fall semester. During the month of October, students were encouraged to consider their future college and career paths as they attended the District’s Fifth Annual College and Career Family Conference, Rosemead High School senior Viridiana Sanchez has earned a spot as a finalist for the Pasadena Tournament of Roses 2024 Rose Court and Arroyo High School’s mathematics teacher Catherine Flores has been named El Monte Union’s 2023-24 District Teacher of the Year. Superintendent's Update - July/August 2023; It was an absolute pleasure to welcome you all to the 2023-24 school year earlier this month as students and staff made their way to campuses, connecting on their summer adventures and excitement for the new year. El Monte Union would like to first congratulate our students who dedicated their summer to furthering their education and personal growth through our summer school programs. Your hard work and commitment have not gone unnoticed, and we commend your efforts. In August, our high schools hosted Link Crew leadership days, freshmen orientations, spirit assemblies and athletic competitions, showcasing school pride and vibrant student engagement. Our teachers and staff also had the opportunity to learn and connect during Teacher Professional Development days and were welcomed back with a fun and exciting Opening of School Celebration. Superintendent's Update - February 2023; We are so proud of the determination that we witness every day in our El Monte Union students as they reach toward their academic and athletic goals. Their achievements are truly outstanding and we know none of them would be possible without the hard work of our staff, faculty and administrations. Two of those great achievements this month were South El Monte High School’s Academic Decathlon students becoming the first group of Eagles headed to the State Championships and Fernando R. Ledesma High School being recognized as a 2023 Model Continuation High School. Our students also saw successes in athletics, with many of our winter sports teams qualifying and competing in CIF and state championships, and taking titles in the Mission Valley League championship. Superintendent's Update - May 2022; As we wrap up the 2021-22 school year, I want to take a moment to acknowledge the strength and perseverance of our amazing students, teachers, staff and administrators. Despite a year full of uncertainties, our students have continued to succeed and we had many things to celebrate during May. Many of our seniors received scholarships and awards, the District announced South El Monte High School’s rising senior, Ruben Carrazzco, as the new student board member and student advisory council president for the 2022-23 school year, and we celebrated our spectacular teachers and staff during Teacher Appreciation Week and Classified School Employee Week. Superintendent's Update - April 2022; With April coming to an end, I want to take a moment and reflect on the recent accomplishments of our amazing students, teachers and staff. This month, many of our students were awarded scholarships to prestigious universities, earned certificates of recognition for their academic and athletic successes and helped to share information and increase understanding about autism for Autism Awareness Month. I would also like to recognize and thank the parents of our District community. Superintendent's Update - March 2022; March has been a very busy month, filled with lots of activity and success across our campuses. Among our celebrations this month, we recognized the achievements of our musical education department and athletes, and also some of the improvements to our campuses that will provide inspiring spaces for our students. Along with providing a strong foundation for our students to achieve, we are also continually focused on ensuring that our schools are safe learning environments. COVID-19 protocols have changed and as a result, beginning Monday, April 4, indoor masking will become optional for all students and staff on El Monte Union campuses, facilities and on district-operated vehicles including school buses. Superintendent's Update - February 2022; It has been a successful month at El Monte Union as our students continue to reach their academic goals. I am so proud of the hard work and determination we have seen from our students, teachers and staff this spring semester.This month, EMUHSD and our students took part in honoring Lunar New Year, a week-long celebration that concluded with a community drive-thru event held at the District office. Festivities continued across the District, as students showed their creativity and school pride during Spirit Week and an El Monte High School freshman was celebrated for earning a spot in the prestigious Ryman Arts Program. Superintendent's Update - January 2022; It has been a great start to 2022 and our spring semester at the El Monte Union High School District. I am extremely proud of our students and staff for striving and achieving academic success throughout uncertain times. This month, EMUHSD has seen many accomplishments from our students including the announcement of Rosemead High School’s Posse Scholarship winner, the expanding of a student grown ‘Farm Lab’ for sustainable living at Arroyo High School and South El Monte High School’s ASB Cabinet members receiving recognition for their dedication during distance learning in 2020-21 and their successful return to campus in 2021-22. Superintendent's Update - December 2021; The holiday season is upon us, and it is a wonderful time for celebration and reflection. I want to take a moment to recognize some of our District’s outstanding successes, which include our continued academic excellence, the amazing adaptability of our students and staff, and the ongoing compassion for each other and connection with our community that I witness every day. It has been an exciting and productive month at El Monte Union. Earlier this month, Mountain View’s very own Zoo Crew: Engineers Gone Wild! was recognized for excellence with a Golden Bell Award; El Monte High School teacher Joe Whisler was honored with the Bobby Salcedo Esperanza Award; we enjoyed student performances from our incredible performing arts programs; and the District’s annual Family Posada brought the El Monte Union community together for holiday fun. Superintendent's Update - November 2021: As our Thanksgiving festivities come to a close, I would like to share my utmost appreciation to our hard-working students, teachers, staff and families for their patience and perseverance in transitioning to full-time instruction after a challenging 2020 school year. El Monte Union continues to celebrate the impressive innovation carried on throughout our campuses shown within Arroyo High School's new project-based and group-based math course, Fernando R. Ledesma's grant to receive more books and the integration of the Youth Truth Student Survey results. The El Monte Union Board of Trustees also recently passed resolutions showing appreciation for our school psychologists, honoring Native American Heritage Month and recognizing Special Education Day on Dec. 2. Superintendent's Update - October 2021: We have already cleared the halfway point through our semester, our students and staff have risen to the challenges presented by the return to in-person learning and I am so proud to see our campuses bustling with activity, achievement and growth. Students across our District are engaging in deep learning through our innovative CTE pathways and rigorous curriculum, as well as participating meaningfully in our community through activities such as working to promote breast cancer awareness and volunteering to help build an urban garden on Arroyo High School’s campus. They are truly fulfilling the El Monte Union vision by becoming lifelong learners and contributing members of our global society. El Monte Union Seeks Community Input on Trustee Area Maps, District Formation Process: The El Monte Union High School District is inviting the public to provide input on draft maps developed as part of the school district formation process. The District is transitioning from at-large elections to by-trustee area elections to comply with the California Voting Rights Act.
Draft maps and information about community Open Houses are available at emuhsd-by-area-trustees.com. The maps will be officially unveiled during a public hearing on Wednesday, Oct. 6. The maps were created by a demographer hired to assist the District in establishing by-trustee area maps according to state and federal legal criteria. Superintendent's Update - September 2021: The 2021-22 school year is well underway, and our students and teachers are engaged in full, in-person learning once again. We are thrilled to see our students back on our campuses, where they are taking part in programs such as athletics, theater, music and more. This month we celebrated the official opening of our new Community Education Center, which is equipped with state-of-the-art technology in an open and inviting space. The center currently serves as the hub for our Independent Study program and will be an important resource to students and the community for years to come. EMUHSD to Host Public Hearing: The El Monte Union High School District is continuing its efforts to gather community input and boost voter participation as it begins the process of shifting from at-large elections to by-trustee area elections, holding its second in a series of public hearings on Wednesday, Sept. 1.
The shift means that instead of residents voting for any board candidate on the ballot within the District’s boundaries, residents will vote for a single candidate residing in their newly drawn trustee-area, usually one-fifth of the entire District. Superintendent's Update - July 2021: EMUHSD hopes you are enjoying the summer months, continuing to stay healthy and safe while taking a much-needed break to rest and prepare for the start of the 2021-22 school year. El Monte Union will start the new school year on Aug. 17, welcoming students back to campus for in-person instruction five days a week. Additionally, EMUHSD schools have a new start time of 8:30 a.m., which will go into effect across all our campuses on the first day of school. EMUHSD Kicks-Off $9.8 Million Grant for Clean Mobility Project: El Monte Union High School District has been awarded a $9.8 million grant by the California Air Resources Board (CARB) to fund a menu of Clean Mobility measures to promote the use of zero-emission vehicles and clean transportation options for students, parents and staff with the added benefit of a pilot Career Technical Education (CTE) curriculum to engage students in clean energy career pathways. 2019-20 EXAMINATION UPDATES
Spring is the time students usually engage in testing, but the COVID-19 pandemic has impacted several planned exams: state assessments have been suspended for the 2019-20 school year; AP exams will be administered online, with free review classes offered; SAT exams have been canceled through May 2; and the ACT has been rescheduled to June 13.
