  • EMUHSD Student Chefs Compete in Game Show-Style Cooking Showdown

    Channeling such popular cooking shows as “Top Chef,” six-member culinary arts teams from Mountain View, Rosemead and Arroyo high schools competed to see who could prepare the most appetizing cuisine during the inaugural Cooking Showdown, held March 15 at Mountain View High School. The winning team will be announced at the Board of Trustees meeting on May 1.

  • Rosemead AcaDeca Team Returns to State Competition March 22-24

    Rosemead High School’s Panther Academic Decathlon team will return to the California State Championships for the second year in a row, capping an unprecedented season that saw nearly every El Monte Union comprehensive high school place in the Top 25 in the Los Angeles County regionals. In its second year competing as a Division I team, Rosemead High earned a fifth-place finish at the Los Angeles County Office of Education Academic Decathlon in February and will return to the state competition March 22-24 in Sacramento.

  • Arroyo Academic Decathlon Team Earns 27 Medals at County Competition

    Arroyo High School landed in the Top 25 teams that competed in the Los Angeles County Office of Education Academic Decathlon in February, capturing 15th place overall. Arroyo High earned 27 medals and placed fourth overall and second in Division II Super Quiz. Junior Mia Cabrera placed third for Top Decathlete-Varsity in Division II and senior Hai Chou was the top overall Decathlete for Arroyo.

  • Mountain View High Academic Decathlon Team Makes Top 25

    Mountain View High School landed in the Top 25 teams that competed in the Los Angeles County Office of Education Academic Decathlon in February, capturing 19th place overall. Academic Decathlon teams are composed of students from all grade point averages. The county competition involved 40 official teams and 15 junior teams from 26 school districts. Mountain View High earned 12 medals, including three gold and three silver. The top scorer was James Liu.

  • El Monte High to Celebrate Stadium Renovation March 20

    El Monte High School will hold a ribbon-cutting ceremony to celebrate $6.6 million in renovations to its stadium – including a snack bar, restrooms and bleachers to seat more than 2,000 spectators – at 6 p.m. Wednesday, March 20.

    El Monte High’s Academic Decathlon team excelled, winning eight medals, including two gold, at the Los Angeles County Office of Education Academic Decathlon in February. Academic Decathlon teams are composed of students from all grade point averages. The county competition involved 40 official teams and 15 junior teams from 26 school districts. This year’s competition was focused on the subject, “The 1960s: A Transformational Decade.”

    Arroyo High School has earned the first College Board AP Computer Science Female Diversity Award for achieving high female representation in its AP Computer Science Principles course. Out of more than 18,000 secondary schools worldwide that offer AP courses, the El Monte Union high school is one of only 685 to reach this achievement.
